Rigor Mortis

from Missing Opportunities by Uphill Work

/

about

Written somewhere in 2011 during a particularly severe illness, this one was originally called "Sickumentary" until we decided against clumsy foreign-language puns and portmanteaus.

lyrics

I see my mind run to the mill
I hear my voice brought to a hiss
I swear the chill’s not gonna leave
I fear the fade’s not gonna end
So sick so hot under the eyes
So sick so cold near the heart
Be quiet or else you will expire
Be loud or else no one will hear you now

Languor, torpor, stupor, rigor mortis

I think my life gets to a halt
I guess my time’s virtually up
I’m sure my death’s ringing a bell
I’d say the scythe suits her fine
So sick so hot under the eyes
So sick so cold near the heart
Be quiet or else you will expire
Be loud or else no one will hear you now
